Merki began as a mother-and-daughter dream rooted in a shared love for fashion. Brigitte, the mother, previously attended fashion school in Ghana and went on to create her own fashion brand before pausing her journey to focus on raising her children.
Years later, her daughter Rania followed in her footsteps, attending the very same fashion school at just 14 years old. Despite their passion for fashion, both Brigitte and Rania constantly faced the same challenge: finding beautiful, fashion-forward, one-of-a-kind modest clothing in Ghana — or even modest clothing at all. They soon realized they were not alone, as many within the Muslim community struggled with the same issue.
Inspired to create the change they wished to see, Brigitte and Rania combined their fashion knowledge, creativity, and shared vision to build something meaningful for their community. And that is how Merki was born.
Brigitte and Rania are a Swiss-Ghanaian mother-and-daughter duo based in Ghana, united by a deep-rooted passion for fashion that has been passed down through generations. Coming from a long line of designers, creativity has always been woven into their family story. Rania’s mother, Brigitte, is a fashion designer, as was her mother before her,while Rania’s great-grandmother was also known for designing children’s clothing in her time. Through Merki, Brigitte and Rania aspire to create more than just a modest clothing brand but a community and safe space where Muslim women from all backgrounds can feel seen, represented, and have access to beautifully crafted, modest wear without compromise.
